Blog 5: Roan Mountain, TN

Roan Highlands. One of our absolute favorite places on Earth. If you’re looking for an incredible view that makes you feel ITTY BITTY then this is your spot. Looking over the Blue Ridge Mountains that seem to go on for millions of miles, it’ll make you never want to leave. It’s a perfect day hike or if you’re feeling frisky, a perfect camp over-nighter. Keep in mind, it's one of the highest peeks in the East so the temperature tends to be on the chilly side (sounds nice for us van dwellers doesn’t it??).

Parking down at Carvers gap is your best bet for parking close to the balds. It gives you a stunning view of the first bald, Round Bald, and tends to stay quiet…on the weekdays that is (highly recommend because weekends get busy).
Though you’ll still have to hike up Round Bald to see the 360 views, it’s a short hike filled with spruce pines and mossy trees which makes it all worth it. Carvers Gap does provide a privy as well as a trash can if needed.

Please park responsibly.
